About the Item

A stunning true pair of French turn of the century Louis XVI st. gilt metal and etched glass sconces attributed to Maison Bagues. Each three arm sconce is centered by a most elegant baluster shaped gilt metal backplate with an exquisite glass reserve and magnificent etched foliate designs. The two elegantly scrolled arms branch out from above leading to lovely floral candle cups with beautiful branches seemingly growing out of the top with striking gilt metal leaves and delicate most decorative glass rosettes. All original gilt throughout. Maison Bagues Founded in Auvergne, France, in 1840 by Nicolas Baguès, the company originally specialized in the creation of liturgical bronzes. Thanks to Baguès’ expansion into bronze lighting and the popularization of electricity, the business quickly found success. At the turn of the century, their chandeliers captured international interest, and soon Baguès began exporting to London, New York, Rome, Brussels, and Cairo. The company is best known for introducing to the world their now signature collections of finely crafted iron, gilt and crystal chandeliers and wall sconces Parrots Foliage.
