About the Item
A stunning large scale true pair of French turn of the century Louis XVI st. crystal, rock crystal and silvered metal sconces attributed to Maison Bagues. Each three arm sconce is centered by an spectacular extremely decorative rock crystal urn with exquisite cut foliate and reeded designs set on a silvered leaf background accentuating the beautiful designs. The three elegantly scrolled arms are adorned with lovely branch like designs with fine crystal leaves leading to lovely floral bobeches with a wonderful array of tear drop cut faceted crystal pendants and striking larger rock crystal pendants cut in a similar manner. Above are exceptional most decorative luxuriant scrolled branches seemingly growing upwards also decorated with outstanding crystal leaves set on silvered leaf backgrounds and lovely crystal rosettes.
Maison Bagues Founded in Auvergne, France, in 1840 by Nicolas Baguès, the company originally specialized in the creation of liturgical bronzes. Thanks to Baguès’ expansion into bronze lighting and the popularization of electricity, the business quickly found success. At the turn of the century, their chandeliers captured international interest, and soon Baguès began exporting to London, New York, Rome, Brussels, and Cairo. The company is best known for introducing to the world their now signature collections of finely crafted iron, gilt and crystal chandeliers and wall sconces Parrots
