A sculptural presence on the wall. This wall lamp by Albano Poli for Poliarte captures the bold and tactile design language that emerged in Italy during the 1970s. Its play with texture, transparency, and form turns a functional object into an architectural feature. Design The piece features a robust structure composed of thick glass rods arranged in a precise grid. Alternating horizontal and vertical elements intersect, forming a rhythm of clear, amber, and smoked glass blocks. The variation in transparency and surface texture amplifies the warm glow when the lamp is lit, casting a soft ambient light and a dramatic shadow play onto the wall behind it. Its design relies on repetition and balance rather than decoration. The clear and dark glass elements are fused with a textured brown surface, creating contrast while maintaining harmony. A steel wall bracket anchors the piece, subtly visible behind the glass and adding a technical edge. The fixture stands out through its depth and layered arrangement—each rod extending slightly beyond the frame, giving it a sculptural, almost floating quality. This is a thoughtful example of how Italian lighting design during this period balanced craftsmanship with industrial materials. Poli’s work with Poliarte often pushed these boundaries, and this lamp is no exception. Condition The condition of the piece is good, with natural signs of age and use. Especially the metal frame shows some lovey oxidative spots consistent with its vintage origin. Furthermore the lamp is equipped with two E14 light fixtures.
