About the Item

Rare antique Boch Frères Keramis ceramic table lamp in coveted Iznik D.69 decor, circa 1920-1925, from Charles Catteau's era with custom Pierre Frey brocade lampshade. Newly wired with US plug or customized for your country of use. Listed height includes the lampshade. The vase base was created during Charles Catteau's tenure as director of Boch Frères Keramis' renowned Atelier de Fantaisie. It features the rare decor number D.69—an Iznik-inspired motif of stylized palmettes, floral medallions, and delicate tendrils rendered in brilliantly layered glazes. The D.69 pattern represents the factory's early exploration of Persian and Ottoman aesthetics, making it a significant example of the design influences that would come to define Art Deco ceramics. The lamp conversion was executed without altering or harming the original vase in any way. The custom lampshade is crafted from Tabriz, an exceptional limited-edition brocade by La Maison Pierre Frey. This sumptuous fabric reinterprets 16th-century Ottoman saz motifs, woven by one of France's historic mills to bring depth, texture, and luxurious warmth to the piece. The shade features a platinum inner lining that maximizes light reflection, while custom brass fittings and a coordinating fabric-wrapped cord complete the refined presentation. About Boch Frères Keramis: The Boch Frères Keramis factory in La Louvière, Belgium, established its legendary Atelier de Fantaisie as a specialized studio for artistic experimentation. This workshop allowed ceramic artists to explore new techniques and designs under the visionary direction of Charles Catteau. The Atelier produced highly celebrated and collectible ceramics influenced by Cubism, Japonisme, and the natural world, creating works that remain sought-after by collectors and design enthusiasts worldwide. About Amitābha Studio Amitābha Studio is a design atelier dedicated to transforming historic ceramics into one-of-a-kind lighting objects. Each lamp is crafted with deep respect for the original form, using non-invasive methods that preserve the integrity of every vintage or antique vessel. Bases are paired with bespoke lampshades and finished with carefully selected fittings, cords, and custom brass elements, guided by a commitment to sustainability, cultural continuity, and timeless design.

Charles Catteau Art Deco Pineapple Table Lamp with New Ikat Silk Shade, 1920s
By Boch Freres Keramis, Charles Catteau
Located in AMSTERDAM, NL
Lovingly handcrafted by Amitābha Studio in Amsterdam from an antique Boch Frères Keramis vase (Model 1118, circa 1920–1930) designed by Charles Catteau, this one-of-a-kind table lamp transforms the iconic Art Deco “pineapple” vase. We’ve paired the vase base with a new bespoke hand-pleated lampshade made from hand-woven, hand-dyed Ikat cotton-silk fabric crafted on traditional Uzbek looms. We’ve also added a matching green cord. The lamp was created without harming the original vase in any way. This ceramic vase—commonly referred to as the pineapple vase—was produced by Boch Frères Keramis in La Louvière, Belgium between 1920 and 1930. Designed by Charles Catteau, the vase features a repeating geometric relief pattern molded into its ovoid form and finished with a fine ivory craquelure glaze. Known as Model 1118 in the Boch Frères catalog, it reflects Catteau’s Art Deco vocabulary: bold geometry, stylized natural references, and technical innovation in glazing. The gathered lampshade...
