About the Item

Dress a bedside table, writing desk, or small commode with this elegant antique table lamp, originally an oil lamp (lampe à pétrole) crafted in France circa 1870. Resting on three sculpted paw feet, the richly detailed repousse base features acanthus leaf motifs and fine Napoleon III ornamentation. The cylindrical body is decorated with extraordinary narrative scenes in the manner of David Teniers, including interior cabaret vignettes, a rooster motif, and a cat perched atop a barrel. The original oil knob remains intact as a decorative element. Newly wired to U.S. standards and fitted with its classic beige circular shade, the lamp displays a warm, aged patinated brass finish. Excellent condition commensurate with age and use. Shade included. Measures: 7" diameter x 33" height.
