About the Item

From the late 70s Alessandro Mendini was among the renewers of Italian design, both as a theoretical intellectual and as an influential member of the Alchimia group. He then worked for numerous companies such as Alessi, Venini, Bisazza, Cartier, Hermès, Vacheron Constantin, Supreme NYC, Swatch, Swarovski, etc. His furniture is also well known ans exhibited in several permanent collections such as the Triennale Design Museum and the Catanzaro Museum of Arts. Alessandro Mendini has received numerous international awards, including the Italian industrial design award Compasso d'Oro in 1979. He edited many architecture magazines including Domus, Casabella and Modo, which he founded. In 1989 he founded Atelier Mendini together with his brother. Here we have a very peculiar table lamp in molded glass model Cubosfera, realized in 1968 for Fidenza Vetraria. Published in: - Domus numero 467, ottobre 1968, p. 35; - R. Rinaldi, Alessandro Mendini. Progetto Infelice, Ricerche Design Editrice, 1983, p. 49. Good condition, fully original. The light can be rewired for US standards upon request. We recommend a wooden crate for shipping as this item is very fragile.

20th Century Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni Table Lamp Taccia for Flos
By Achille Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Flos
Located in Turin, Turin
Table lamp model "Taccia" designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in 1960s for Flos in extruded aluminium with painted metal reflector and mouth-blown translucent glass diffuser, and base in polished, nickel-plated and zapped steel; very good condition. This project stems from Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni's desire to make a table lamp with indirect light. Following various studies, they made a prototype with an opaque white reflector made of plastic material and a supporting cup, also made of plastic material but transparent. After various experiments, they discarded the idea of using plastic material because of the deformations that were created to the reflector support due to the heat of the concentrated light source. The final prototype turns out to consist of a reflector made of aluminum lacquered in a matte white color in the convex part, polished in the concave part, and a support cup made of transparent glass resistant even to high temperatures. Achille Castiglioni said in 1987: "This is an interesting lamp because of its history, and because someone today confuses it for a post-modern object...
