About the Item
This 20th-century hand-shaped terracotta table lamp transforms a utilitarian olive-oil storage jar from southern Anatolia into refined lighting. Molded from coarse red clay in the foothills of the region, the original vessel featured a pressed “wave” motif around its shoulder — a subtle decorative flourish distinguishing it from purely functional forms.
Now converted in the UK into a table lamp, the piece retains its bold, steady form and unglazed surface, which bears traces of mineral dust and firing marks from its original use.
Styling Tip: Place the lamp on a sideboard or bedside table in a space layered with linen, worn timber, soft metals or stone surfaces. Its clay body and subtle wave design complement both rustic-mediterranean and modern minimal interiors.
