About the Item

Iconic table lamp by Aldo vd Nieuwelaar from his TC series designed in The Netherlands in 1972. When Aldo van den Nieuwelaar drew a circle and a square in the 1960s, he got tears in his eye, he once said in an interview. This idea was the origin of the TC6 of Circle lamp. This became his most famous and popular lamp. It consists of a square white lacquered steel box which houses the start ballast attached to a circular florescent TL-tube. Van den Nieuwelaar preferred uniform light from the fluorescent light to that of spotlights and dimmed lamps that were popular at that time. He felt that dimmed lights deformed space. White light he called abstract light. The first production of the TC6 took place at Artimeta in Heerlen. Simon Eikelenboom produced a version with a two-step dimmer, which is this version. It still has the original manufacturers sticker on the inside. Later the Circle lamps were manufactured by Nila Lights, the company run by his brother. This version can be used as table or wall lamp, using the interlocking hole at the bottom of the block. With its original round TL-lamp, in excellent original condition. This lamp is in the collection of several museums as MOMA, Vitra design Museum, Stedelijk museum, Booijmans van Beuningen, and probably more. This lamp is checked in our own atelier, cleaned and is suitable for use in the USA. For US usage we could change the plug, or you can get a converter if needed for a floor or table lamp with transformer in it. Feel free to inquire for options.
