About the Item

This sculptural ceramic table lamp was designed by Anna-Lisa Thomson (1905–1952), one of Sweden’s most important mid-century ceramic artists. Thomson was a leading designer at Gefle and Upsala Ekeby from the 1930s until her early passing in 1952, and her work is today highly sought after due to both its artistic quality and her relatively limited production. Thomson’s design language is instantly recognisable: organic, rounded forms decorated with deeply carved botanical reliefs inspired by leaves, flowers and natural growth. Her most iconic series include Paprika, Granola, Aster and Kaktus, all celebrated for their sculptural presence and refined glazing. This lamp displays all the hallmarks of her work. The body is richly decorated with stylised floral and leaf motifs in relief, glazed in a soft grey-beige tone with a subtle mottled finish. The unglazed terracotta base carries the Upsala-Ekeby stamp, and the side of the lamp is impressed with “Thomson”, confirming her authorship. A beautiful and collectible piece of Swedish mid-century ceramics, produced in the late 1940s to early 1950s. Dimensions: Height: 35 cm Diameter: 18 cm In excellent vintage condition.
