Jean-Pierre-Léon MAYNADIER (Paris, 1888 – 1948), was born at 3 Place des Vosges. He began his professional career as a sales employee, then a designer, but he quickly trained in the forging trade to start a few years later an activity as an artistic ironworker specializing in lighting fixtures. Wounded several times during the war of 14-18, he bravely reached the rank of sergeant. After the First World War, he finally set up his own business by acquiring the Vertadier company in 1924, a metal gilder at 12 rue Saint-Gilles, where he developed his artistic ironwork business: "artistic iron applied to lighting fixtures" from 1925. He quickly began looking for new industrial premises to set up his workshops and store. It was then that he moved to 36 rue Amelot and expanded his range of bronze lighting fixtures. In 1934 the company became P. Maynadier et Cie, an association with Charles Besnus, formerly "Cherrier et Besnus". The latter had succeeded his father-in-law René Massin, a lighting bronzer, who had his company at the same address as Maynadier. In 1934, Pierre Maynadier took over Marcel Fritsch's lighting bronze factory at 25 rue Saint-Sébastien and set up new workshops. Throughout his career, Pierre Maynadier designed most of his lighting fixtures. For glassware, Maynadier regularly called on Muller Frères Lunéville, who he had manufactured exclusive models. The assemblies of his lighting fixtures also included glassware from Dégué, Schneider and Daum. When he died in 1948, his son Pierre Jean Serge took over management of the company, and in the 1960s it was managed by Pierre Martin until it ceased trading.
