About the Item
Art Nouveau Hand-Modeled Ceramic Table Lamp, Klein Unica, 1920s
This sculptural 1920s Klein Unica table lamp is a striking example of Danish hand-modeled ceramics from the early 20th century.
Crafted in earthenware and finished in a glossy white glaze, the piece is built up in swirling, organic reliefs that wrap the entire body. The lamp’s ovoid form is pierced and shaped by deeply carved, flowing curves, that are almost botanical in their movement, placing it firmly within the late Art Nouveau / early Skønvirke aesthetic, where natural forms and rhythmic ornamentation were central.
Each motif is individually hand-modeled, giving the surface a lively, sculptural depth. The lamp is signed in the clay underneath “Klein Unica”, identifying it as a unique handcrafted piece from the Klein ceramic workshop. It is fitted for an E27 bulb.
There are two small, age-appropriate chips where the base meets the body; these are discreet and consistent with the lamp’s nearly 100-year history.
The lamp will be rewired upon purchase with a new twisted fabric cord in white or black, according to the buyer’s preference.
Sold without lampshade.

About the Klein Ceramic Workshop
The Klein Keramikværksted was a small Danish ceramic studio active in the early 20th century, known for producing hand-built, one-of-a-kind “Unica” pieces. The workshop embraced the spirit of the Scandinavian Skønvirke and European Art Nouveau movements, emphasizing organic lines, sculptural surfaces, and meticulous craftsmanship. Works were often individually modeled rather than produced from molds, giving each piece a distinctive, expressive character. Pieces signed “Klein Unica” reflect the studio’s dedication to artisanal methods and remain sought after for their sculptural presence and rarity.
