About the Item
A round glass vase mounted as circular table lamp, in aquamarine or turquoise, crafted using the Scavo technique. Made in Murano near Venice, Italy, circa 1980.
The mouth-blown glass in a beautiful weiss beigen tone with Florentine details captivates with its elegant amphora shape and, thanks to the Scavo or Corroso technique, demonstrates exceptional craftsmanship. Scavo literally means "excavated glass" and refers to the special surface treatment reminiscent of ancient Roman glass unearthed during archaeological excavations.
The dimensions and price listed refer to the base including the lampshade.
The Scavo glass vase is 12 inches tall without the stem and lamp socket; the height with the socket is 16.5 inches; the base has a diameter of 9.5" at its widest point. The lampshade is approximately 20 inches tall and measures 15.25" x 13" at its widest point.
Characteristic of this type of glass is its overall rough, matte surface, which is predominantly white-beige with aquamarine-green turquoise accents.
The uneven appearance and cloudy color result from the reaction of salts and mineral oxides that were deposited on the surface during the final production steps.
The mouth-blown glass lamp can be illuminated from within, which makes it particularly striking. It is decorated with colored glass handles and stands on a round, turquoise plaster base. The vibrant powder green combined with the matte white is reminiscent of glacial ice or an Arctic cave.
The wiring conforms to European standards. A new plug would need to be installed for use in the USA. Acquired at an estate sale in Parma, Italy.
The Fixture requires one European E27 / 110 Volt Edison bulb, up to 100 watts on the top socket and a E14 /110 bulb inside the lamp foot. A beautiful addition to any room.
