Beautiful 1950s table lamp in very good original condition.
A stunning example of mid-century Italian craftsmanship, this table lamp features 10 arched slabs of thick Murano Glass complemented by a patinated brass structure.
The patinated brass offers a warm, aged finish, while the Murano glass reflects the unparalleled artistry of Venetian glassmakers.
The glass diffuses light beautifully, creating a soft, atmospheric glow that enhances any space. Its warm and inviting light effect, coupled with the rich patina of the brass, makes this lamp a striking centerpiece in both classic and contemporary interiors.
This lamp was Originally commissioned for a private residence in Brussels.
Murano, a small island near Venice, Italy, has been the heart of exquisite glassmaking for over 700 years. In the late 13th century, Venetian authorities ordered all glassmakers to relocate their furnaces to Murano, fearing the risk of fires in the city's wooden structures. This move transformed the island into a hub of innovation and artistry.
Over centuries, Murano glassmakers developed groundbreaking techniques, such as crystalline glass, enamel coloring, and aventurine glass with its sparkling gold flecks. Their secret methods were so prized that glassmakers were treated as nobility but forbidden to leave Venice to protect the craft.
Today, Murano remains a symbol of luxury and artistry. Its glassworks continue to produce breathtaking chandeliers, vases, and lamps, each reflecting a legacy of skill passed down through generations. Every piece tells a story of tradition, creativity, and passion, making Murano glass coveted worldwide.
