About the Item

One-of-a-kind 1977 Dutch blue ceramic table lamp by Flora Gouda (Lotus series), paired with a new Liberty of London “Marquess Garden” floral shade in blue; finished with brass details and a fabric wrapped navy cord, newly wired with a U.S. plug and ready to use. The ceramic base is an original Lotus series vase by Flora Gouda, produced in 1977 during a brief and important transitional moment in Dutch ceramics. Finished in a soft, matte cornflower-leaning blue, the glaze has a velvety depth that reads neither bright nor dark — a nuanced tone that works easily across both neutral and layered interiors. Encircling the upper body is a hand-painted white abstract frieze, applied freehand rather than transfer-printed. The motif is rhythmic and graphic, lending the vase a distinctly Mid-Century Modern character while still referencing Flora’s long decorative tradition. Subtle variations in the brushwork confirm its handmade origin and give the surface quiet movement rather than rigid symmetry. The lamp is topped with a newly made tailored lampshade in Liberty London’s “Marquess Garden” floral fabric (also designed in 1977!) printed on cotton sateen. The dense, small-scale floral pattern introduces softness and visual richness, complementing the clean geometry of the ceramic form without overwhelming it. The shade’s palette — layered blues with crisp white — was chosen specifically to echo the vase while adding warmth and texture. A custom brass collar and fittings provide a refined transition between base and shade, while the braided blue cord reinforces the cohesive color story. The original vase has been converted using non-invasive methods, preserving its integrity as a collectible ceramic object. This lamp is particularly well suited to interiors that value color restraint with character — think a thoughtfully layered living room, a bedside table in a classic yet relaxed bedroom, or a collector’s space that blends mid-century design with contemporary textiles. It offers presence without excess, and pattern without noise. Together, these two elements—conceived independently in the same year—form a dialogue between Dutch ceramic artistry and British textile heritage. ⸻ Please note: The lamp is fully wired for use in the U.S. Additionally, the listed height includes the lampshade. We also ensure compatibility for global use by offering a free plug customization service to match the electrical standards of your specific country. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us! ⸻ About Flora Gouda Founded in 1945 in Gouda, the Netherlands, Flora became one of the country’s most innovative ceramic manufacturers during the mid-20th century. Known for expressive glazes and hand-painted decoration, the factory maintained artisanal production methods well into the 1970s. The Lotus series, introduced briefly in 1977, represents one of Flora’s final hand-decorated lines before wider industrial changes. Today, Lotus pieces are valued for their balance of modernist design and traditional craftsmanship. About Amitābha Studio: Amitābha Studio is a design atelier dedicated to transforming historic ceramics into one-of-a-kind lighting objects. Each lamp is crafted with deep reverence for the original form, using non-invasive methods that preserve the integrity of every antique or vintage vase. We pair these bases with bespoke lampshades—often made from luxurious textiles such as vintage sari silks or fine European fabrics—and finish each piece with carefully selected cords, fittings, and handmade brass elements. Our work is guided by a commitment to sustainability, cultural heritage, and timeless design.

Blue Neoclassical Ceramic Table Lamp, William Morris Acanthus Pleated Shade
By Morris Co., Flora Gouda
Located in AMSTERDAM, NL
This vintage ceramic table lamp was handcrafted by Amitābha Studio in Amsterdam from a rare amphora-shaped vase by Flora Gouda, part of the Porcelina series produced between 1950 and 1970. We’ve paired the base with a bespoke hand-pleated lampshade in a reinterpreted William Morris Acanthus print, and finished it with a soft blue silk cord. The lamp was created without harming the original vase in any way. The amphora form, with its fluted pedestal and graceful curves, reflects a neoclassical influence filtered through the clean, modernist lines of mid-century Dutch design. Finished in a pale, slate-toned matte glaze, the vase belongs to Flora’s Porcelina series—developed to meet shifting postwar tastes toward muted, architectural ceramics. Its powdery surface diffuses light gently, lending the lamp a quiet, sculptural quality. The lampshade’s pleated craftsmanship echoes the vase’s ribbed detailing, while the indigo and ivory palette of the William Morris textile subtly mirrors the vase’s color story. Together, the lamp and shade create a thoughtful dialogue between classical reference and 20th-century restraint. This Flora Gouda lamp...
