About the Item

This blue and white Delft table lamp features a vintage Dutch Delftware vase paired with William Morris's iconic Acanthus botanical pattern from the Arts and Crafts movement. The bespoke lampshade showcases scrolling acanthus leaves in layered shades of blue—from soft sky tones to rich cobalt and navy—printed on cotton-linen by Morris Co. The white-glazed ceramic base, made by Velsen Pottery in the Netherlands, exemplifies the Delfts Wit tradition—white Delftware that developed alongside the famous blue and white pottery. Its graceful rounded form with subtle vertical ribbing creates an elegant foundation for the dramatic botanical shade. Created by William Morris in 1875, the Acanthus pattern represents a turning point in his design work, marked by bold, sweeping curves and three-dimensional layered foliage. The vigorous, flowing leaves demonstrate Morris's masterful interpretation of natural forms, breaking from Victorian conventions to create something entirely new. The pattern required thirty wood blocks to print the full repeat and used fifteen subtly different colors—more than any previous Morris design. The combination of pristine white Dutch ceramic with intricate blue botanical patterns creates striking visual harmony. This lamp works beautifully in Arts and Crafts interiors, coastal spaces where blue and white palettes reign, maximalist rooms that layer pattern and texture, or any setting that appreciates the marriage of Dutch ceramic heritage and English design history. Handcrafted by Amitābha Studio in Amsterdam, this lamp transforms historic ceramics into functional art. The vase was converted to a lamp without alteration or damage to the original pottery, preserving its integrity while giving it new purpose. A custom blue twisted cord completes the cohesive aesthetic, tying the white base to the multi-toned blue shade. ⸻ Please note: The lamp is fully wired for use in the U.S. Additionally, the listed height includes the lampshade. We also ensure compatibility for global use by offering a free plug customization service to match the electrical standards of your specific country. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us! ⸻ About Velsen: Keramiekfabriek Velsen was founded in 1920 near Haarlem as Kennemer Pottenbakkerij. Relocated to Sassenheim in 1943, the factory became renowned after World War II for handpainted Delftware in blue and white, polychrome, and distinctive Delft White styles. Velsen's polychrome work used a wider, more vibrant palette than most Dutch producers and often featured gold accents. The factory transitioned to transfer printing in the mid-1980s and closed in 2002. Velsen pottery is now highly collectible for its exceptional craftsmanship and distinctive color work.

Blue Neoclassical Ceramic Table Lamp, William Morris Acanthus Pleated Shade
By Flora Gouda, Morris Co.
Located in AMSTERDAM, NL
This vintage ceramic table lamp was handcrafted by Amitābha Studio in Amsterdam from a rare amphora-shaped vase by Flora Gouda, part of the Porcelina series produced between 1950 and 1970. We’ve paired the base with a bespoke hand-pleated lampshade in a reinterpreted William Morris Acanthus print, and finished it with a soft blue silk cord. The lamp was created without harming the original vase in any way. The amphora form, with its fluted pedestal and graceful curves, reflects a neoclassical influence filtered through the clean, modernist lines of mid-century Dutch design. Finished in a pale, slate-toned matte glaze, the vase belongs to Flora’s Porcelina series—developed to meet shifting postwar tastes toward muted, architectural ceramics. Its powdery surface diffuses light gently, lending the lamp a quiet, sculptural quality. The lampshade’s pleated craftsmanship echoes the vase’s ribbed detailing, while the indigo and ivory palette of the William Morris textile subtly mirrors the vase’s color story. Together, the lamp and shade create a thoughtful dialogue between classical reference and 20th-century restraint. This Flora Gouda lamp...
