About the Item
Pair of table lamps made by noted ceramist Marcello Fantoni (Florence 1915-2011) inside his atelier in the 1970s.
The lamps have a ceramic base with an ombré blue gradient finish, topped by a white linen drum shade.
The transitional design features an organic egg-shaped or oval body with an elegant shaded effect. The ceramic frame is topped by a handmade drum shade made of white linen.
Marcello Fantoni was an esteemed ceramist and his works are exhibited in major museums around the world: in the United States at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Museum of Fine Art in Boston; in the United Kingdom, at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London; in Japan, at the Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo and Kyoto; and in Italy, at the Museo Internazionale della Ceramiche in Faenza and the Gabinetto Disegni e Stampe degli Uffizi.
In his long and multifaceted activity, Fantoni has executed works for churches, public and private buildings, schools, cinemas, theaters, and ships, trying his hand at both figurative and abstract sculpture in ceramics and various metals.

He studied at the Art Institute in Florence, where Libero Andreotti and Bruno Innocenti were his sculpting professors and Gianni Vagnetti was his figurative art professor. Fantoni began to work as a ceramist in 1934, opening his factory in 1936. After the Second World War, he became very successful, and his works are held in some of the world's most important museums (from the USA to Japan).
