About the Item

Meticulously handcrafted by Amitābha Studio from an antique Boch Frères Keramis cloisonné ceramic vase (circa 1920), this one-of-a-kind table lamp exemplifies the studio’s approach to thoughtful restoration and design. The base, created during Charles Catteau's tenure as the director of Boch Frères Keramis’ renowned Atelier de Fantaisie, features the rare decor number D 69—an Iznik-inspired motif of stylized palmettes, floral medallions, and fine tendrils rendered in a brilliantly layered glaze. The lamp was created without harming the original vase in any way. The lampshade is crafted from Tabriz, an exceptional lampas brocade by La Maison Pierre Frey. Part of the Pierre Frey's limited edition Rêveries Orientales collection, the fabric reinterprets 16th-century Ottoman saz motifs with expressive sickle-shaped curves and a subtle metallic thread that shimmers in shifting light. Woven by one of France’s historic mills, Tabriz brings historical complexity and sensual richness to the piece. Its platinum-lined interior heightens the play of light, casting a warm, luminous glow that echoes the brilliance of the cloisonné base. This lamp is rooted in the legacy of the Boch Frères Keramis factory in La Louvière, Belgium. The Atelier de Fantasie was a specialized studio at Boch Frères Keramis, a workshop for artistic painting, where ceramic artists could experiment with new techniques and designs. Creating highly celebrated and collectable ceramics influenced by Cubism, Japonisme, and the wonders of nature, the Atelier de Fantaisie thrived under Charles Catteau vision and direction. Rich in pattern yet balanced in proportion, this lamp makes a compelling statement in interiors that embrace maximalism, cultural layering, or collector-grade decorative arts. It offers a rare convergence of provenance, material artistry, and contemporary interpretation—designed for those who seek not only beauty but meaning in the objects they live with. ⸻ Please note: The lamp is fully wired for use in the U.S. Additionally, the listed height includes the lampshade. We also ensure compatibility for global use by offering a free plug customization service to match the electrical standards of your specific country. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us! ⸻ About Amitābha Studio: Amitābha Studio is a design atelier dedicated to transforming historic European ceramics into one-of-a-kind lighting objects. Each lamp is crafted with deep reverence for the original form, using non-invasive methods that preserve the integrity of every antique or vintage vase. We pair these bases with bespoke lampshades—often made from luxurious textiles such as vintage sari silks or fine European fabrics—and finish each piece with carefully selected cords, fittings, and handmade brass elements. Our work is guided by a commitment to sustainability, cultural heritage, and timeless design.

Charles Catteau Art Deco Pineapple Table Lamp with New Ikat Silk Shade, 1920s
By Boch Freres Keramis, Charles Catteau
Located in AMSTERDAM, NL
Lovingly handcrafted by Amitābha Studio in Amsterdam from an antique Boch Frères Keramis vase (Model 1118, circa 1920–1930) designed by Charles Catteau, this one-of-a-kind table lamp transforms the iconic Art Deco “pineapple” vase. We’ve paired the vase base with a new bespoke hand-pleated lampshade made from hand-woven, hand-dyed Ikat cotton-silk fabric crafted on traditional Uzbek looms. We’ve also added a matching green cord. The lamp was created without harming the original vase in any way. This ceramic vase—commonly referred to as the pineapple vase—was produced by Boch Frères Keramis in La Louvière, Belgium between 1920 and 1930. Designed by Charles Catteau, the vase features a repeating geometric relief pattern molded into its ovoid form and finished with a fine ivory craquelure glaze. Known as Model 1118 in the Boch Frères catalog, it reflects Catteau’s Art Deco vocabulary: bold geometry, stylized natural references, and technical innovation in glazing. The gathered lampshade...
