About the Item
French Art Deco Crackle-Glaze Ceramic Table Lamp by Charles Harva, France, 1920s.
Refined French Art Deco table lamp by Charles Harva, created in France during the 1920s. The lamp features a ceramic base with a crackle glaze, formed in a strong geometric silhouette and decorated with a stylized fish motif, a theme closely associated with the Art Deco fascination for nature rendered in a modern, graphic manner.
The bold geometry of the base, combined with the rhythmic, stylized decoration, places this work close in spirit to the ceramics of Robert Lallemant, sharing a similar balance between sculptural form and decorative abstraction. The ceramic is complemented by a fabric lampshade, creating a harmonious contrast between texture and light.

Charles Harva (active 1920s–1930s)
Charles Harva was a French ceramicist active during the Art Deco period, known for his sculptural approach to decorative ceramics and his mastery of crackle glazes. His work often features geometric forms combined with stylized animal or vegetal motifs, reflecting the aesthetic ideals of French Art Deco ceramics of the interwar years.
Harva’s production aligns closely with that of contemporaries such as Robert Lallemant, sharing an interest in architectural form, controlled ornamentation, and rich surface effects. Signed examples marked “CH France” are appreciated today for their distinctive style, quality craftsmanship, and strong decorative presence.
Although less widely documented than some of his contemporaries, Charles Harva’s work is increasingly sought after by collectors of French Art Deco ceramics and lighting, valued for its originality and period authenticity.
