About the Item
Brutalist style and Space Age style table lamps, Italy, 1970s. Composed of hand-carved, turned and varnished veined alabaster bases, and lampshades made of a metal structure covered with Cocoon resin, offering a soft and warm light effect through this versatile material. Gold chrome structure. Memphis and Mid-Century Modern style. Very rare pieces, for any type of decoration. Artisanal manufacture.
Very much in the style of the creations of the Spanish lighting brand Eclipsi, and the Italian designs of Fratelli Mannelli.
The Cocoon resin material was invented after World War II to protect unarmed warships and other unprotected items. It is made of powdered plastic and fiberglass. Arturo Eisenkeil imported this material to Italy, with which he made a multitude of decorative lamps and marketed them.
The alabaster is a material that is both warm and cold, beautiful like marble but at the same time ductile and malleable like wood, translucent like opaline, which plays with light filtering through its veins to create decorative elements of all kinds characterised by a structural and perceptive lightness.
For one E14 bulb each piece. Renovated electrical installation and fully operational. LED compatible. The Cocoon lampshades show minimal signs of use. Rust marks on the inside of the lampshades where the lampholders are attached (see last photo).
Note: We always try to the fullest to respect as much as possible all the original elements of each piece (wiring, lampshade, finishes...) so as not to alter the original aesthetics and so that they can continue to have another life with their intact soul. That is why sometimes certain elements can present wear and tear, but they are part of the life of each piece, always providing a very pleasant patina.
