About the Item
Refined and sculptural Danish Art Nouveau (Skønvirke) table lamp executed in solid brass with elegantly stylized organic detailing. The lamp rests on a circular base with upward-flowing lines and a finely balanced profile characteristic of the early 20th-century Danish decorative arts.
The metalwork exhibits the restrained ornamentation and craftsmanship typical of the Skønvirke movement — Denmark’s interpretation of Art Nouveau — which emphasized the unity of art and craft, honest materials, and natural inspiration. The socket combines metal and porcelain elements, and the wiring exits near the fitting in keeping with original period practice.
Comparable examples were designed by leading Danish architects and designers of the era, including Johan Rohde and Thorvald Bindesbøll, who helped define the aesthetic that bridged the late 19th-century artistic revival and the emerging functionalist ideals of the early modern age.
