This versatile base design was offered in several versions, supporting lampshades by Muller Frères, Degué, and others. Its craftsmanship ranks alongside the finest Art Deco ironwork of the period—Edgar Brandt, Paul Kiss, and Raymond Subes. The base model appears in the Le Fer Forgé catalog under reference #4551.
A true masterpiece of French Art Deco lighting, this lamp exemplifies the creative collaboration between two major French artisans—Degué’s bold, sculptural glass and Fournet’s elegant ironwork.
About Henri Fournet and Le Fer Forgé (Lyon)
Henri Fournet, director of LeferforgéHF in Lyon, operated one of the largest wholesale establishments in France for iron and bronze household articles. Beyond utilitarian goods, his company produced a prestigious line of high-quality wrought iron lamp bases, chandeliers, and decorative objects. Fournet’s lighting designs are celebrated for their balanced proportions and masterful metalwork—symbols of French Art Deco excellence.
About Degué (David Guéron, 1892–1950)
Degué was the artistic vision of David Guéron, a Turkish-born French glassmaker of Spanish-Jewish heritage. After serving in the French Foreign Legion during World War I, Guéron founded his glassworks in Compiègne in the early 1920s. Inspired by the success of the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs, he shifted his focus to Art Deco art glass, creating bold, sculptural designs that captured the modern spirit of the age.
In 1926, he opened the Verrerie d’Art Degué on Boulevard Malesherbes in Paris, along with a showroom at 41 avenue de Paris. His glass designs—vases, chandeliers, lamps, and ceiling lights—were known for their natural motifs, geometric relief patterns, and rich color swirls.
Degué’s creations became synonymous with French luxury, gracing the homes of elite collectors in Paris and abroad. His factory also produced glass panels for the legendary French ocean liner SS Normandie, one of the greatest Art Deco masterpieces ever built.
Although the Degué glassworks ceased operations in 1936 amid social unrest and economic challenges, its artistic legacy endures. Degué’s collaborations with prominent artists such as Édouard Cazaux resulted in some of the most striking molded glass designs of the Art Deco era—treasured today by collectors and museums worldwide.
