Antique Delft Tichelaar Makkum hand-painted polychrome ceramic table lamp, early 20th C. Hand-painted Dutch pottery with new navy silk lampshade.
Early turn of the 20th-century Delft-tradition ceramic vase by Tichelaar Makkum, hand-painted in classic polychrome and converted into a table lamp by Amitābha Studio. The piece retains its original Dutch tin-glaze decoration in cobalt, green, and sienna, complemented by custom brass fittings, braided navy cord, and a tailored pleated navy silk shade. The lamp offers collectors and designers an authentic example of Dutch polychrome pottery adapted into refined, functional lighting.
About Tichelaar Makkum
Tichelaar Makkum is one of the oldest continuously operating ceramic workshops in Europe, with origins traced to the late 16th century in the Frisian town of Makkum, the Netherlands. Known for its mastery of tin-glazed earthenware, the workshop became a key producer within the broader Delftware tradition, preserving hand-painted techniques and polychrome decoration through centuries of production. Pieces from Makkum are recognized for their refined craftsmanship, distinctive color palette, and adherence to historic Dutch ceramic methods, making the workshop an important name for collectors of Northern European pottery.

Amitābha Studio
Amitābha Studio is a husband-and-wife creative design studio founded in Amsterdam in 2021 by Davide Piai and Kimberly Poppe. The name "Amitābha" means "limitless light" in Sanskrit.
Davide Piai is an Italian craftsman with talents encompassing art, music, and culinary arts. Kimberly Poppe is an American artist, fine art photographer, curator, and interior designer, educated at Parsons School of Design and Sotheby's Institute of Art.
Together, they create functional art objects—notably luxury lighting and lamps—by meticulously sourcing and transforming antique and vintage ceramics into handcrafted designer pieces. Each of their lamps is one-of-a-kind.
In 2025, Amitābha Studio relocated to Sitges, on the Mediterranean coast south of Barcelona, Spain. While Dutch pottery remains at the heart of their collection, the move has allowed them to incorporate the rich ceramic heritage of Spain into their work.
The studio has collaborated with prestigious institutions, including Aronson Antiquairs for 17th-century Delftware and Royal Delft.
