About the Item

Vintage Delft Tichelaar Makkum hand-painted ceramic table lamp with a richly decorated floral body, newly paired with a blue linen lampshade trimmed in Houlès passementerie and finished with a matching fabric-wrapped cord. New wiring, socket and plugs for your country of use. This statement table lamp is crafted from an original hand-painted Tichelaar Makkum ceramic vase, produced in the Netherlands during the mid-20th century. The surface is richly decorated in the Dutch Delft polychrome tradition, featuring stylized florals, scrolling foliage, and symmetrical motifs rendered in deep cobalt blue, brick red, and soft green against a warm ivory ground. The decoration is lively yet balanced, with fine linework and confident brushstrokes that wrap the vessel continuously. As is characteristic of Makkum production, the painting is executed entirely by hand rather than transfer, giving the piece depth, variation, and individuality. The underside bears the Makkum shield mark with model number 495, a marking associated with mid-century production. While exact dating varies by painter and form, this style and mark are generally attributed to circa 1940s–1970s. Amitābha Studio has carefully transformed the vase into a functional lamp without altering or damaging the original ceramic. It has been newly wired and fitted with brass hardware, then paired with a custom blue linen lampshade, finished with refined Houlès passementerie trim. A matching fabric-wrapped cord completes the ensemble, adding a tailored, studio-crafted finish that complements the historic ceramic without overpowering it. About Royal Tichelaar Makkum Royal Tichelaar Makkum is one of the oldest continuously operating ceramic workshops in Europe, founded in 1572 in the Frisian town of Makkum, the Netherlands. Renowned for its mastery of tin-glazed earthenware, the workshop became a key contributor to the Delftware tradition, preserving hand-painting techniques across centuries. During the mid-20th century, Makkum produced decorative ceramics that balanced historic Dutch ornamentation with modern forms, making pieces from this period especially sought after by collectors. Their work is recognized for its refined craftsmanship, rich color palette, and enduring commitment to artisanal production. ⸻ Please note: The lamp is fully wired for use in the U.S. Additionally, the listed height includes the lampshade. We also ensure compatibility for global use by offering a free plug customization service to match the electrical standards of your specific country. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us! ⸻ About Amitābha Studio: Amitābha Studio is a design atelier dedicated to transforming historic ceramics into one-of-a-kind lighting objects. Each lamp is crafted with deep reverence for the original form, using non-invasive methods that preserve the integrity of every antique or vintage vase. We pair these bases with bespoke lampshades—often made from luxurious textiles such as vintage sari silks or fine European fabrics—and finish each piece with carefully selected cords, fittings, and handmade brass elements. Our work is guided by a commitment to sustainability, cultural heritage, and timeless design.

Decorated in imitation of a Chinese Ming vase with a sage, rocks and vegetation, mounted on a wood base. The dimensions noted include the lampshade and electrical fittings. The vase as mounted in wood is approximately 10in. high and 6in. diameter.
