About the Item
A Fantastic Pair of Mid-Century Rock Crystal and Giltwood Bagues Table Lamps. Each lamp features a body crafted from clear rock crystal, composed of multiple carved sections with varied geometric and rounded profiles. The upper section supports a circular disk element positioned below the lamp’s gilt metal stem, which is fitted with double bulb sockets and pull chains. The main body is baluster-shaped, with elongated vertical flutes cut into the crystal. The base of the crystal stem transitions into a faceted hexagonal collar above a short giltwood support.
Each lamp rests on a stepped giltwood base framing a carved rock crystal plinth. The plinth is domed with radiating, faceted cuts and retains visible crystalline veining and inclusions. The giltwood retains a warm, even tone and forms a narrow circular foot ring at the bottom, providing stability. The crystal elements display a combination of polished and naturally textured surfaces, offering distinct transparency and refraction in different sections of the carving.
This pair is attributed to and in the style of the French firm Baguès, known for its production of high-quality lighting and decorative objects during the mid-20th century. The use of solid rock crystal, combined with hand-carved detailing and giltwood elements, aligns with documented Baguès designs from the period. The construction method incorporates traditional lamp fittings compatible with standard shades while preserving the decorative integrity of the rock crystal and giltwood structure.
