About the Item
An elegant and most unique French 19th century Louis XV/XVI st. Ormolu lamp, signed Gagneau Paris. This rare lamp is raised by on a circular scalloped Ormolu base with a mottled outer edge below the spiral fluted designed socle. Above the socle is a flower like Ormolu mount supporting the Iron fut which holds the adjustable Ormolu arm. The scrolled arm displays richly chased acanthus leaves leading to the circular foliate candle cup. At the top of the iron fut is a decorative pierced Ormolu finial with a double scrolled design and foliate accents.
Gagneau Paris was a distinguished 19th-century French bronzier and lighting manufacturer based at Rue d’Enghien in Paris. Active from the 1830s through the early 20th century, the firm produced luxurious ormolu and bronze lighting fixtures, including candelabra, lamps, and chandeliers, often in Neoclassical, Louis XVI, and Empire Revival styles.
