This adjustable task lamp was produced in the 1950s by Hardill
Horstmann Ltd., an English manufacturer based in Godalming, known for its precise engineering and early adoption of modern industrial design principles. Their lamps were built for professional environments—drafting studios, workshops, scientific settings—and are today regarded as some of the most technically sophisticated British task lights of the mid-century period.
This example features the brand’s characteristic counterbalanced arm structure, constructed in brushed aluminum, combined with a cast-iron base and a machined pivot system engraved with the factory’s mark and British patent information. The design offers exceptional adjustability through its dual-arm mechanism, allowing the lamp to extend, retract, tilt, and rotate with ease.
