Hand sculpted terracotta table lamp from Italy, 1950s, shaped as a classical overflowing fruit basket.
This sculptural terracotta table lamp was made in Italy in the 1950s. The base is shaped as an abundant fruit basket, a classical motif in Mediterranean decorative arts. The modelling is warm and expressive, with grapes, figs and leaves flowing naturally over the rounded form. The lower section has a woven basket texture that recalls traditional Italian pottery.
The terracotta has the soft matte patina that collectors appreciate in mid century Mediterranean work. It brings a natural, welcoming atmosphere to an interior and works beautifully in both rustic and modern environments.
