About the Item

Japanese lacquered porcelain lamps, 1950s, finished in a deep oxblood red with a surface carefully crafted to mimic tooled leather in the manner of Jacques Adnet and early Hermès equestrian leatherwork. The bases are scalloped and decorated with hand-applied gilt foliate tooling - the same ornamental vocabulary seen on French leather desk accessories and Adnet's stitched-edge furniture. The porcelain bodies are ribbed and weighted, with that unmistakable Japanese mid-century lacquer sheen: satin, rich, and subtly glowing in the light. Marked Japan on the underside. Newly rewired with high-quality black twisted cloth cord and polished brass hardware. These hit the sweet spot between French saddle-stitched chic and Japanese craft minimalism - refined, unpretentious, and quietly luxurious.
