About the Item
French Art Deco Table Lamp by Jean Gauthier, Paris, 1920s.
Exceptional French Art Deco table lamp designed by Jean Gauthier (Paris), France, circa 1920s. The lamp features a thick semi-crystal glass shade with an elegant geometric Art Deco pattern. Depending on light exposure, the glass reveals a subtle opalescent blue hue, characteristic of high-quality French Art Deco lighting.
The lamp is mounted on a refined wrought iron base, perfectly complementing the sculptural glass shade. This piece belongs to the same artistic period and aesthetic movement as René Lalique, Sabino, Etling, and Marius-Ernest Sabino, making it a highly desirable example of early 20th-century French decorative arts.

About Jean Gauthier
Jean Gauthier was an important French glassmaker active in Paris during the Art Deco period. He established his first workshop at 12–14 rue Jean Robert in Paris, before expanding production to factories in Ézanville, north of Paris.
In the years immediately following World War I, Gauthier produced cameo glass shades, some signed Gauthier. With the opening of the Ézanville factories, he shifted toward the production of molded-pressed Art Deco glass, resulting in many iconic lighting models. Numerous works from this period remain unsigned, while others bear marks such as EJG (Établissements Jean Gauthier) or J. Robert, a pseudonym derived from the address of his original Paris workshop.
During the 1930s, Jean Gauthier developed a distinctive line of opalescent semi-crystal glass shades, often cup-shaped. These were sometimes signed Ézan France, referencing the location of his later production facilities. Today, Jean Gauthier’s work is highly sought after by collectors of French Art Deco lighting and glass, appreciated for its refined craftsmanship and luminous glass quality.
