About the Item

Late 19th c. , a lovely large black and gold painted hexagonal English tea canister with Chinoiserie decoration, mounted as 3-light table lamp with a tall brass finial. Once a tea canister, now a lamp, this piece has great presence and character. The lamp is painted black on three sides while the other three contain painted panels with depictions a central figure with a pagoda in the background of the middle panel. Hanging lanterns visible on all three panels suggest a night scene. The combination of black, gold and red paint create a lovely luminous quality. The overall size of this lamp is quite imposing and would certainly make a statement in any room. Dimensions: Approx. 36"h x 13"w (total) Condition: Good/Fair, paint loss and rubs, surface distress consistent with age and use.
