About the Item
Extra-large hand-thrown studio pottery table lamp by Brent Bennett, a pioneer of the California Modern movement. The lamp features a substantial ceramic body with a raw brown clay surface, minimally decorated with incised aqua-glazed tally mark motifs.
Bennett’s work is recognized for its emphasis on form, material, and process, and this example is particularly strong for its chunky proportions and restrained surface treatment, allowing the texture of the clay and the sculptural presence of the form to take precedence.
Brent Bennett maintains an open studio in Pine Mountain Club, north of Los Angeles, and is regarded as a master ceramist within the California Modern tradition.
