Rare Humlebæk Ceramic Art Nouveau Table Lamp, Denmark, 1930s–1940s
A rare and striking ceramic table lamp from Humlebæk Keramik, Denmark, dating from the 1930s–1940s. The tall, organic form is decorated in glossy black glaze with hand-painted white floral scrolls in a flowing Art Nouveau style. The lamp is mounted with a brass top under the socket fitting (E27) and has been newly rewired with a twisted white fabric cord.
This piece exemplifies the elegant balance of natural, curving motifs and robust ceramic craftsmanship. A true example of Danish ceramic artistry.
The lamp is in good vintage condition with a few expected signs of age: a small chip to the edge of the base and two minor glaze flakes (see close-up images). Sold without lampshade.

About Humlebæk Keramik
Humlebæk Keramik was founded in 1937 by Axel Frederiksen, who had previously run a pottery in Næstved. The workshop became known for its richly glazed ceramics, often hand-decorated with stylized floral and organic motifs that carried forward the influence of Art Nouveau while embracing modern Danish design traditions. Today, Humlebæk Keramik pieces are sought after for their quality, rarity, and distinctive decorative character.

In the 1850s at the island of Bornholm in Denmark the small terracotta factory "L. Hjort" specialized in producing terracotta earthenware items. The factory had great success internationally, and already by 1880 Hjorth's articles were sold in the big department stores of Paris, London and Berlin, and as far away as in Australia, New York and Sct. Thomas. The factory also participated in the big World Exhibitions in Altona 1869, London 1870 and 1874 as well as New Orleans 1885.
One of Hjorths Fabrik's biggest successes and Denmark's first real stoneware series is the grey-brown stoneware. It is available as vases, jars, dishes, stands, tea and coffee sets, lamps, buttons, brooches, door signs...
