About the Item

On the outskirts of Valencia, Spain is the small city of Manises, recognized for its ceramics traditions for centuries. During the 1950s and 60s, various companies here produced lines of decorative table lamps, in a variety of colors and designs. These lamps became "de rigueur" mid-century interior design pieces, and can be seen in many period Spanish films - more recently in the productions of director Pedro Almódovar, adding touches of immediately recognizable nostalgia to his scenes. This lamp is an example of the more "baroque" Manises style - made by the Bondia company, this oversize bright red and higly decorated lamp makes a strong visual statement. Imagine what a contrast it could present in a minimalist and monochromatic setting! The lampshade is shown as an example of how the lamp might be styled, and is not included.
