About the Item

This rare 1980s Leola Space Age chrome table lamp is a playful and highly sculptural example of the French manufacturer’s experimental approach to lighting design. Entirely crafted in polished chrome-plated metal, the piece is defined by its fully articulated gooseneck body, arms, and legs, allowing it to be posed in countless expressive positions. The lamp’s elongated elliptical body, paired with its exposed E27 socket-as-head, immediately gives it an anthropomorphic presence—almost like a futuristic creature stepping out of a late-20th-century sci-fi universe. Each of the four flexible legs terminates in a biomorphic, flattened chrome foot that provides stability while reinforcing the lamp’s animated, character-like quality. Two articulated arms extend from the upper body, finishing in small chrome spheres reminiscent of hands. Whether standing upright, pointing, crouching, or taking a long stride, the lamp takes on a different personality in every pose, making it as much a kinetic sculpture as a functional lighting object. A quintessential product of Space Age and postmodern design, this Leola lamp brings a touch of humour, futurism, and chromed elegance to any interior. It is an ideal statement piece for collectors who appreciate rare decorative objects that bridge the worlds of design, art, and playful mechanical invention.

Space Age Table Lamp in Chromed Metal att. to Gaetano Sciolari (1927-1994)
By Gaetano Sciolari
Located in MOUGINS, FR
Large "Space Age" style table lamp by Gaetano Sciolari in chromed metal. The lamp is on a mirrored chromed metal base, with 6 chromed metal spikes with bronze tops around a central shaft, giving the lamp a very elegant silhouette. It is equipped with its original lampshade (some signs of use - see photos). A typical creation by Sciolari in the 1970s - 1980s, this lamp is in excellent condition with particularly well-preserved chromed walls. The electrification is original and has been revised. Dimensions: Total height 75 cm, height excluding lampshade 44 cm, base diameter 17 cm. Lampshade 37.5 cm by 30 cm in diameter. Gaetano Sciolari (1927 – 1994) is a designer, architect and above all an outstanding businessman, born in Italy in 1927. After graduating from the Faculty of Architecture, the young man returned to his first passion, cinema, and in particular filmmaking. However, after the death of his father in 1949, Sciolari had no choice but to take over the family lighting production business. In just a few years, the designer transformed the company and propelled it onto the international scene. Sciolari was not only a brilliant business leader, he was also a creative, prolific and talented designer. He worked for the great names of design like Stilnovo in Italy in the 1950s, Boulanger and Stilkronen. Throughout his career, he designed beautiful and incredible lighting fixtures like the “Mod A5011” pendant (circa 1950), the “4079” floor lamp (1965) and of course the Cubic chandelier (1970s). His creations are shaped in both shiny and matte metal, multi-lights, evoking futuristic visions of the emerging space age. In the 70s and 80s, his creations are in high demand. The Sciolari editor becomes the 1st Italian seller...
