Louis Sognot was a renowned French designer, known for his elegant furniture and lighting designs that masterfully combined rattan and wood. Born on May 25, 1892 in Paris, France, Sognot began his artistic journey at the École Bernard-Palissy. In 1919, he worked as a designer for the famous Au Printemps department store in Paris, where he honed his skills and developed a distinctive design language. Sognot became a founding member of the Union des Artistes Décorateurs, a key group in promoting the French decorative arts movement in the early 20th century. Throughout his career, Sognot created furniture, lighting, and interior design pieces that became emblematic of the French Art Deco and later Midcentury styles, while incorporating the clean lines and geometric forms of Cubism. His legacy is reflected in the continued appreciation of his timeless designs, which remain highly sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts. Louis Sognot passed away in 1970 in Paris, but his impact on French design continues to be felt today.
