About the Item
Antique Louis XVI style carved oak table lamp, late 19th to early 20th century and later adapted for electrical use. Executed in the manner of Clodion (Claude Michel, 1738–1814), the sculptural base features a group of playful putti encircling a fluted central stem adorned with floral and foliate carvings. Resting on a circular molded base with carved melon-form feet, the lamp is topped with a cream silk bell-shaped shade and finial. The warm gray-washed finish highlights the texture of the carving and the graceful wear of age.
Elegant yet whimsical, this lamp recalls the Rococo-inflected neoclassicism of the Louis XVI period—romantic, decorative, and quintessentially French. A striking accent for a living room, study, or dressing table, with undeniable charm and historical resonance.
