An iconic example of Italian Space Age design, the “Fungo” (model 625) table lamp was designed by Elio Martinelli for Martinelli Luce in the late 1960s. With its soft organic form and bold contrast of materials, this lamp epitomizes the futuristic elegance of mid-century Italian lighting.
The design features a large domed opaline glass diffuser resting on a black lacquered metal base, recalling the natural form of a mushroom (“fungo” in Italian). When illuminated, the glass emits a warm, diffused glow that enhances the sculptural simplicity of the silhouette.
Elio Martinelli, one of Italy’s most innovative lighting designers, created this piece as part of his exploration of pure geometric forms and functional beauty—principles that made Martinelli Luce a leader in modern lighting.
