About the Item
An Exceptional and Handsome Pair of Italian Mid Century heavy gauge electric table Lamps of outstanding quality, firmly attributed to Italian designer Gio Ponti. Circa 1950s.
The main body modeled with plain tubular upright detailing ending on a large circular base in Ormolu and silver plate.
Condition: Good overall condition with no losses. Professionally re-gold and silver plated, possibly experienced little use during their lifetime.
Height: (entire including electric bulb holder) 22” (55.5cm). Diameter: (at base) 8.5” (21cm).

Gio Ponti was a prolific Italian architect, designer, and artist born in Milan in 1891, who played a pivotal role in shaping 20th-century Italian design. After graduating in 1921, he opened his practice and became a key figure by founding the magazine Domus in 1928, organizing the Monza/Milan Triennale Exhibitions, and working with industrial manufacturers to bridge the gap between art and industry. His career spanned over 60 years, with initial work in a neoclassical style evolving through modernism, resulting in iconic buildings like the Pirelli Tower and diverse designs in furniture, ceramics, and glassware. He died in Milan in 1979
