About the Item
1960s Pieter Groeneveldt Craquelé Ceramic Table Lamp with Custom Silk Shade
Height: 75 cm / 29.5 in – Diameter: 30 cm / 11.8 in
Discover a rare piece of mid-century Dutch artistry with this exquisite craquelé ceramic table lamp by Pieter Groeneveldt (1889–1982). Crafted in the 1960s, this lamp perfectly captures Groeneveldt’s signature fusion of organic forms and refined glazes inspired by Japanese and Chinese ceramic traditions.
The hand-thrown ceramic base is adorned in a mesmerizing blue-green glaze, its crackled surface creating an intricate mosaic of delicate lines that shift beautifully with the light — like water reflecting a cloudy sky. Resting on its original textured black clay stand, the base is grounded in earthy elegance that highlights Groeneveldt’s reverence for natural materials.
We have thoughtfully completed this piece with a custom-made silk lampshade in a subtle blue-grey hue with warm undertones when lit, further echoing the tranquil, timeless spirit of East Asian ceramics. The gentle interplay of cool and warm tones brings a sense of serenity and quiet sophistication to any interior.
Pieter Groeneveldt, widely regarded as one of the Netherlands’ foremost ceramists, trained under renowned sculptor and ceramicist Chris Lanooy before founding his own studio in Voorschoten in 1923. His work is celebrated for its timeless forms, sophisticated glazes, and masterful craftsmanship, bridging European modernism with the enduring elegance of Asian ceramic art.
A perfect statement piece for collectors and interior connoisseurs alike, this lamp brings warmth, texture, and an understated sense of history to any space.

Italy has produced some of the greatest furniture designers in the world, such as Achille Castiglioni, Gio Ponti, and Ettore Sottsass. Italian interior design in the 1900s was particularly well-known and grew to the heights of class and sophistication. At first, in the early 1900s, Italian furniture designers struggled to create an equal balance between classical elegance and modern creativity, and initially Italian interior design in the 1910s and 1920s was very similar to that of French Art Deco styles, using exotic materials and creating sumptuous furniture. However, Italian Art Deco reached its pinnacle under Gio Ponti, who made his designs sophisticated, elegant, stylish and refined, but also modern, exotic and creative. In 1926, a new style of furnishing emerged in Italy, known as "Razionalismo", or "Rationalism". The most successful and famous of the Rationalists were the Gruppo 7...
