Charles Hollis Jones, born in 1945, is an American artist and furniture designer.
He is known as pioneer in acrylic and lucite design. At the age of 16 he founded CHJ Designs.
At the time, acrylic and plastic were not commonly used as materials for luxury furniture and art, but Jones changed that
and started making pieces for showrooms.
His work was well received. He received his first design commissions from Frank Sinatra, Lucille Ball and Johnny Carson, among others.
Tennessee Williams commissioned Jones to design a writing chair which resulted in the Wisteria chair.
In the 1970s, Jones made his award-winning Edison Lamp.
Using original Thomas Edison lamps, Jones created a lamp using steel and lucite
with the intention of showing the inner workings of Edison's original technology.
He won the California Design 11 Competition and received exceptional recognition from the German government.
