About the Item

Iconic and amazing Art Deco table or desk lamp by Claude-Paz Et Silva, model "Mushroom," manufactured in the 1930s, with gilded brass and copper finishes. The model's name refers to its structure, which consists of a round chromed base from which three rods (between which the switch is located) extend, supporting the dome-shaped or mushroom-shaped shade. Beneath it is a pressed frosted glass diffuser bearing the brand's signature. Claude-Paz Silva The Claude-Paz Silva company was founded in 1933. It resulted from the merger of Claude Lumière, founded in 1930 by his nephews Georges (1870-1960) and André Claude (1900-1950), and Paz Silva, founded in 1900. André Claude assumed the presidency of the company. They manufactured household appliances and advertising signs using neon lights, processes patented by Georges Claude, the inventor of the neon light. The company was acquired by JC Decaux, now renowned for its billboard advertising. In 1956, the company merged with Visseaux to form Claude Paz Visseaux. The full company name remains "Claude Paz Visseaux," but the logo is abbreviated simply to "Claude." Viseaux was founded in 1900 by Jacques Visseaux (1872-1952), specializing in the manufacture of gas lighting fixtures. In 1966, it was acquired by the American group ITT (International Telephone Telegraph), and in 1980 by the GTE group (General Telephone Electronics Corporation). After 1993, it was acquired by SLI France (Sylvania Lighting International France). Art Deco The term Art Deco was coined in the 1960s to refer to the art that emerged during the interwar period. It was a style that developed in all facets of design and reached its peak at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris (1925). Art Deco is characterized by its use of straight lines and geometric volumes; it is a style that arose from the combination of various trends. Some of the major influences on Art Deco include avant-garde art, mechanization, and archaeological discoveries in Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. It differs from other artistic periods in that it was a purely decorative style, in which artists focused on creating attractive and balanced pieces that reflected the society of their time.
