About the Item

This is a striking handmade lamp by Matt Murphy Studio inspired by Tommi Parzinger. (See info below about Matt Murphy Studio and the Parzinger connection.) The base of the lamp is a solid cylinder of turned birch wood. The base is then hand-painted and clear-coated for durability. The finish is then polished and waxed to achieve a satin luster. Black enameled metal strips and black nail heads are then applied by hand to complete the graphic pattern. Note: because the lamp is crafted by hand, you will see brush strokes and irregularities that are inherent to handmade artisan goods. A modern yet classic lamp that is as timeless as it is stylish. Lamp measurements: * total lamp height: 27.5" * cylinder dimensions: 13" high x 4.25" diameter * shade dimensions: 8" top, 10" bottom, 12" side About Matt Murphy Studio: Matt Murphy is a former creative executive for Williams Sonoma and Target Corporation. He has also been widely published for his interiors, collecting and other creative pursuits. His interest in the work of Tommi Parzinger led to an introduction to Donald Cameron in the late 1990s. Cameron, who worked alongside Parzinger for nearly 40 years and designed much of the Parzinger Originals line, was Murphy's mentor and friend. Cameron generously gifted the rights to Parzinger's designs to Murphy upon his death in 2011. Matt Murphy Studio has recreated many fabric patterns from the Parzinger archives, as well as interpreted drawings and studies into patterns. And there are many of Murphy's own designs in the collection of fabrics, pillows and wallpapers. Although currently Matt Murphy Studio is not literally recreating any of Parzigner's lighting or furniture designs, the influence is evident. "Even the designs I create that are original, there's always a Parzinger thread through the work, whether it's scale and proportion, details or materials," says Murphy.
