About the Item

A fine pair of French 19th century Napoleon III Empire style patinated-bronze and gilt-bronze mounted allegorical covered urn vases lamps in the manner of Pierre-Philippe Thomire (French, 1751–1843). The ovoid campana-shaped noire enameled urns, surmounted twin handles and gilt-bronze mounts of dancing maidens allegorical to the Empire reign, both raised on a square plinth surmounted with Empire style wreaths and harps. (Now converted to table lamps - electrified). Both lamps fitted with recent cream color silk shades. Circa: Paris, 1870-1880. Measures: Height of Urns: 21 7/8 inches (70.8 cm) Overall Height: 36 3/4 inches (93.4 cm) Width: 8 3/4 inches (22.3 cm) Depth: 8 3/4 inches (22.3 cm) Base: 6 inches by 6 inches (15.3 cm x 15.3 cm).

    Additions or alterations made to the original: 1. Converted into lamps. 2. The noire (black) enamel appears to have been redone. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor fading. A truly beautiful pair of urns, now lamps. Overall condition is very good with minor age wear. All gilt is original and the gilt-bronze mounts have fine detail. The black enamel background appears to have been redone. Please view all images.
