About the Item
Beautiful Set of Chinoiserie Majolica Lamps by Prof. Eugenio Pattarino, Florence, Late 1940s
A captivating pair of Chinoiserie-inspired majolica lamps, crafted in the late 1940s by the renowned Italian artist and sculptor Prof. Eugenio Pattarino in his Florence studio near the iconic Ponte Vecchio. Pattarino (1885–?) was a versatile artist educated in Florence, Venice, and Frankfurt, who studied under Giovanni Fattori and became best known for his large-scale religious statuary. Alongside his sculptural work, he created exquisite earthenware, ceramic, and enameled terracotta pieces, excelling equally in both abstract and realistic styles.
These lamps are finely made of majolica-glazed earthenware, enriched with gilded highlights that shimmer with a delicate crackle glaze, adding an elegant, time-worn texture (clearly visible in detailed photographs). The bases feature a complementary Chinoiserie motif delicately worked around the edge—thoughtfully selected to enhance and harmonize with the lamp forms.
Pattarino’s work bridges classical craftsmanship with playful and exotic decorative traditions, reflecting both his Italian heritage and the broader fascination with East Asian motifs that flourished throughout 20th-century European decorative arts.
These lamps stand as functional artworks—rich in history, culture, and artisanal skill—ideal for collectors who appreciate the intersection of majolica craft and evocative design.
