About the Item
An impressive and high quality pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu and patinated Bronze candelabra lamps, in the manner of Clodion. Each most exceptional electrified candelabra is raised on an oval Ormolu base with acanthus leaf feet and swaging garlands topped with acorn finials. A large scale foliate reserve wraps around the base below a tapered platform, laurel band, and patinated Bronze socle support. A charming inverted acanthus leaf spray supports the patinated Bronze bodies of the lamps and is mirrored by an impressive reserve of Ormolu acanthus leaves. The wonderfully beaded and fluted patinated Bronze bodies showcase charming scenes of playful cherubs amidst intricately detailed foliage. The lamps are flanked by exquisite and large scale Ormolu handles decorated with scrolled and foliate designs, and beaded pulls below. The tapered fluted neck of each lamp leads to a wonderful reserve of a female mask in front of a Vitruvian scroll band. Above are the impressive and most intricate candelabras with all seven arms connected to the central fut by a grouping of Griffin heads. The foliate central fut supports the six outer and single central arms, all displaying scrolled movements leading to beaded bobeches and foliate candle cups.
