Pair of French Empire Bronze Table Lamps, 1820s
A striking and substantial pair of French Empire table lamps in bronze, dating from the 1820s and originally conceived as large Empire-period candlesticks. The sculptural stems display the characteristic strength and classical restraint of the period, with finely turned profiles and crisp decorative detailing that reflect the grandeur of early 19th-century French design.
Carefully converted for electric use, the lamps have been newly rewired to modern standards and are fitted with bespoke black lacquered shades, lined in gold. When illuminated, the shades cast a warm and atmospheric glow that beautifully complements the rich tone of the bronze and enhances the lamps’ architectural presence.
