About the Item

Pair of early edition Gio Ponti candelabra fleche lamps, an original cornucopia design of interlaced tapered horns framing a single arrow, imagined as a marriage symbol for the union of Tony Bouilhet, director of Christofle, with Carla Borletti, Ponti's niece. Originally created in 1928 by Gio Ponti, and presented the same year at the Venice Biennale for Christofle and marketed under their Etains de Carville collection. This particular pair are from the second edition for Christofle under their Orfèvrerie Gallia collection. One lamp is marked underside "Gallia 6055". The other lamp is apparently unmarked. Later editions would be marked Christofle Paris. We have had these electrified to be used as table lamps. See documentation provided in images 18-20. The base metal is Christofle's "non-noble" alloy of pewter which could also be silver plated. The original finish on the pewter of these lamps had suffered damage and was coarse in places and cracked. We have repaired the crack and had an electrostatic paint finish in gold applied over the pewter. Height of 15.5 inches to top of black candle sleeve. Height of 8.25 inches to bobeche. Width is 7.5 inches bobeche to bobeche. Diameter of base is 5.5 inches. Distance between E12 candelabra sockets just shy of 6 inches on center. Shades are shown for display only and are not included.
