About the Item
A refined and sculptural pair of Italian mercury glass table lamps, attributed to Murano, circa 1950s. These elegant lamps feature hand-blown silvered glass bodies of baluster form, displaying a richly aged surface with beautiful tonal variation and natural oxidation developed over decades.
The glass rests on substantial gilt brass bases, each raised on small integrated feet, lending both visual weight and architectural presence. The contrast between the softly reflective mercury glass and the warm, patinated brass creates a timeless and sophisticated material dialogue, emblematic of mid-century Italian decorative lighting.
Each lamp retains its original form and proportions, with turned brass stems and sockets. The mercury glass exhibits expected areas of clouding and wear consistent with age, which contribute to the lamps’ character and authenticity rather than detract from their appeal.
Mercury glass lighting from Italy, particularly pieces attributed to Murano workshops, has long been favored by interior designers for its ability to function as both illumination and sculptural accent. CONDITION:
Good vintage condition with light to moderate patina, heavier to the brass bases and upper stem, and light age wear including some small areas of color loss. Lamps were tested and are in working condition. No shades are included.
