About the Item

A beautiful pair of lamps featuring exquisite Sang de Boeuf glaze—a deep, rich red developed through a complex reduction firing process, celebrated as one of the most prized monochrome glazes in Chinese ceramics. Originating during the Qing Dynasty, Sang de Boeuf (literally “oxblood”) is admired for its vibrant yet subtly variegated surface that combines intensity with depth, evoking the elegance and technical mastery of traditional Chinese monochrome ware. Each lamp is mounted on hand-turned rosewood stands, providing a warm, tactile contrast to the luminous ceramic bodies. The ensemble is completed with soft-back silk shades that gently diffuse light, enhancing the lamps’ timeless beauty. These pieces were acquired in the 1990s from a distinguished antique and decorative arts gallery in New York City. Together, they represent a harmonious blend of Chinese ceramic artistry and refined Western craftsmanship. An exceptional pairing for collectors and interiors that appreciate historical depth and classic elegance.
