About the Item
Pair of ceramic table lamps by French contemporary artist André Bloch. Each lamp features a sculptural base composed of a spherical form rising from a tapered pedestal, finished in a rich, dark, burnished patina with subtle metallic undertones. The surface displays the nuanced textural irregularities characteristic of Bloch’s studio craftsmanship.
The lamps are topped with tall, cylindrical woven shades in a natural, nubby textile that complements the earthy ceramic forms. Brass hardware adds a refined accent without detracting from the sculptural presence of the bases.

“Born from the earth for the earth,” André Bloch began working with clay at just fifteen, unaware that it would set him on a lifelong path of experimentation and constant reinvention. A passionate traveler with a deep curiosity for other cultures, Bloch found his most transformative influence in Asia, where he encountered philosophies that challenged his understanding of form.
From these experiences emerged one of his central artistic questions: how to give substance to form while honoring the power of emptiness. This exploration has shaped his work ever since. Bloch approaches this challenge with humility, pursuing a vocabulary defined by purity, restraint, and function.
His continual research has also led him into projects in architecture and design, all guided by the same principles of aesthetic clarity and essential minimalism.
